Begat.com is a faith and spirituality resource website where people of the world's religions can find the latest news, features and commentary related to spiritual matters, as well as an interactive means to share prayers, testimonials, reviews or other matters of the faithful heart.

The site may develop into one that is global in reach - those who use it will determine that - but it will no doubt feature more religious resources, interactive content and features relevant to churches in Abilene and a large section of the Texas Midwest, because that is where much of the audience for our parent company, the Abilene Reporter-News, is located.

Begat is the past-tense of beget, a word which is in older, English translations of the Bible, especially the King James Version.  It means "to sire," and the word is found 228 times in the KJV - with almost a third of its usage in Genesis.

"And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael: and Mehujael begat Methusael: and Methusael begat Lamech." - Genesis 4:18

The word also means "to bring into being," and that is one reason it is appropriate for a site meant for people whose interactive creations will determine much of its content.

The site has no "hidden agenda" and is not affiliated with any specific religion or denomination, although staff members are all Christians.

We will publish religious and spirituality news, features and opinion stories from the Associated Press and the Scripps Howard News Service. We will not edit them to fit our "purpose," because our only purpose is to provide a specialty site for people interested in religion and spirituality.

The site could be utilized by anyone: the missionary out in the field who can easily share his or her "mission logs" or stories; the churches who wish to upload their sermon synopses; laymen who seek the latest religious news; individuals who enjoy being part of an online spiritual community; or advertisers desiring to show their products or services to a targeted audience.
